A TESTIMONY ABOUT JESUS (86) Revelation 16:1 – 21

The seven last plagues.

“I saw in heaven another great and marvelous sign: seven angels with seven last plagues – last because with them God’s wrath is completed.” Revelation 15:1. The fulfillment of Jesus’ commission to proclaim the good news of the kingdom will culminate in the return of the King of kings and Lord of lords. Just before Jesus’ return, the world will face a time of unparalleled troubles and distress. During this difficult period, God will release the seven final plagues upon those living on earth. The seventh kingdom will be in upheaval, facing great uncertainty.

In this unprecedented time, those who have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb need not fear anything; the great prince will rise to protect His people, as stated in Daniel 12:1. Conversely, those who are not part of the kingdom will curse God because of their suffering, refusing to repent from their self-reliant and self-righteous ways, and expecting God to recognize their self-perceived goodness. When God does not meet their expectations, they grumble and criticize.

The description of the seven final plagues in the Book of Revelation powerfully illustrates the severity of the troubles that will come upon humankind’s seventh kingdom on Earth. The purpose of this description is not to provide detailed physical accounts of what will happen. Instead, it highlights that the events during this time of great trouble and the seven final plagues will be unparalleled in their severity and impact. The most important aspect of these plagues is that God’s response to the evil persecution of His faithful will be sufficient and proportional to the evil deeds committed by those who follow the dragon.

When the sixth angel poured out his bowl of God’s wrath, John saw three evil spirits emerge from the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet (Revelation 16:13). The dragon is Satan himself. The beast represents the one-world system. But who or what is the false prophet?

We know from the Old Covenant Scriptures that the prophets’ mission is to represent God and speak on His behalf to the people. Therefore, if a prophet presents an inaccurate image or description of God to others, that prophet is a false one. The same is true today. We do not need a prophet to reveal God to us because, through Jesus Christ, we have full and free access to God the Father through prayer in Jesus’ name. So, if we show others a version of God different from the one Jesus revealed, then we are false prophets. A tragic outcome among Christians is that many believe Jesus’ death on the cross at Golgotha is not enough to save us. If Jesus’ death couldn’t save us, then what could? God has always been loving. He is love, and He will always be the selfless love. Jeremiah 31:3.
