A TESTIMONY ABOUT JESUS (91) Revelation 17:1 – 10

More details about the great prostitute and the ten kings.

The great prostitute is not only associated with the seventh kingdom but also symbolizes the attitude of the seven biblical kingdoms described in the books of Daniel and Revelation. “Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns.” Revelation 17:3. The scarlet beast represents Satan, on whose behalf the seven biblical human kingdoms operate. The ten horns are not attached to any specific head of the scarlet beast. Instead, the ten horns continue the seventh kingdom after the unprecedented troubles.

During the great economic troubles and the seven last plagues, the integrated seventh kingdom will split into ten regions worldwide. Within each group of nations, the most influential nation will lead its group. The ten groups of nations will collectively form the seventh kingdom. The leading nations will not govern other countries within their region but will guide them. However, the goal of these ten areas will align with that of the scarlet beast that leads the seven biblical kingdoms on Earth. These regions will work in harmony with the red dragon’s purpose.

The seventh and truly global kingdom is described in Daniel 2:41–44. It will lack the grandeur and power of the previous six kingdoms. However, it will have enough structural stability to fulfill the goals of the earlier kingdoms. The ten horns, representing ten regions, will have the same fragile strength as the seventh kingdom. Still, they will be strong enough to lead the world in installing Satan as its ruler.

There is considerable disagreement among students and interpreters of the books of Daniel and Revelation regarding the ten kings. Most concepts list powerful and influential historical figures who are no longer alive, as well as nations that have since vanished. However, the ten kings are in the future relative to today, not in the past. The disagreement comes from the idea that the ten kings are part of and a continuation of the sixth kingdom, the Roman Empire. Nonetheless, Revelation 17:9–10 indicates that ten kings will emerge after the seventh kingdom has experienced great distress.

The seventh kingdom emerged on the historical scene long after the sixth kingdom and is not a continuation of it. The sixth kingdom ended about seven centuries before the concept of the seventh kingdom originated. “This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are the seven hills on which the woman sits. They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while.” Revelation 17:9–10. The Book of Revelation shows that the seventh kingdom and the ten horns must appear sometime after the sixth kingdom and are not a continuation of it.
