From Creation to Re-Creation

CREATION (6)

The root of the problem was the local worldview.

Science and Philosophy maintained that our reality (What we observe) is local. Theology embraced the same worldview. Accordingly, there was one worldview in one locality, in another a different one. The conviction that our reality is local persisted until the end of the 20-eth century. The world-renown scientist, Albert Einstein, supported the locality of reality until his death. The locality of reality influenced the theological definition of God the Creator. Accordingly, theology portrayed God the Creator in human terms and human image. They presented God who, like humans, could have limitations under certain circumstances. Or, God sometimes chooses limitation, theology maintained. However, God the Creator is an Absolute Spirit, Intelligence; therefore, could not experience limitation or be deprived in any way possible.

A misleading assertion of the theologically local worldview concerning God the Creator is that God is in the human image. The students of the Bible reasoned that if God created humankind in His image, therefore, He must be in human image. Such a view concerning God the Creator permeated the ancient and biblical cosmology. People could not have understood God in any other way. Sufficient knowledge did not exist yet. Unfortunately, Christianity’s local worldview concerning God the Creator is alive today. The quantum cosmology presents the worldview concerning God the Creator in stark contrast to the historical view.

Advanced experiments with subatomic particles revealed that our reality is, in fact, universal, not local. The last two decades of the 20-eth century experienced an exponential increase in knowledge concerning our universe and its foundation. The last one of the seven reality experiments has demonstrated, to 99% accuracy, that our reality is universal. As depicted in ancient and biblical cosmology, it became evident that the Creator does not fit in quantum cosmology. Accordingly, theology and advanced cosmology found themselves on a collision course. However, both scientific and theological knowledge concerning God the Creator come from God. God is knowledge. True knowledge concerning God the Creator is the foundation of the universe that humankind observes today. God is love, and the foundation of the universe He created is selfless love. Read the next blog.

CREATION (5)

Ancient cosmology and human nature.

The ancient and classical cosmological concepts revealed the problem concerning understanding human nature. People understood that human beings were mechanical automation isolated from the universe. As such, humans were not an integral part of the universe. Religion maintained that human beings’ highest aim and responsibility was strict adherence to locally devised rules and laws. Societies followed similar concepts concerning the role of human beings. Accordingly, the chief aim of human beings had to be the enlargement of self-image. Central to the enlargement of self-image was a goal to be a good person and a good member of society and a religious order, in human terms. However, in human terms, being a good person does not make one a morally correct person.

Christianity, at its inception, attempted to deemphasize the requirement for strict adherence to man-devised rules and regulations concerning moral behavior. Christianity, which is not a Religion, embodies a proper code for moral conduct within itself. It requires adherence to a higher code of morality. Christianity embodies within itself the universal principle of selfless love. To follow Jesus Christ requires the practice of selfless love. Adherents to the Christian principle of selfless love become a part of the universal sphere, not local only.

Christianity continued to struggle with full adherence to the universal principle of selfless love. The residue of the local worldviews had its consequences. Scientists in quantum physics discovered that experimental data implied a different role of humanity in our universe. The shocking implication was that human intelligence (spirit) is central to human existence. Also, human intelligence (spirit) is central to humanity’s obligatory role in our universe. Thus, the concept of non-locality was born. The next blog explores this concept.

Limited cosmology and worldview continued.

Newton’s Clockwork universe theory maintains that our universe is static – not changing but fixed. Students of the Bible and theologians liked the unchanging universe. They reasoned that because the Creator is unchanging, therefore, His creation is also unchanging. Because the Creator remains the same, all his creation must remain the same, they thought. Einstein’s theory of relativity asserted that there is much more to our universe than commonly thought. One hundred years ago, scientists and laypeople alike were unaware that the universe we see today existed.

When astronomers discovered that we reside in a galaxy, they concluded that our galaxy was the actual universe. Astronomers, as they studied the newly discovered galaxy, discovered a dark region in the constellation Orion. Because the more capable instruments were not available yet, astronomers could not determine the nature of what they saw as a dark region. Some astronomers concluded that the apparent dark region might be an opening to the region outside of our universe. Theologians and the students of the Bible became captivated by the possible opening in our universe.

Many students of the Bible and theologians, especially so among the Protestant believers, concluded that the dark region must be an opening, or gate, leading to heaven where God is. Accordingly, they concluded that sinful humankind is quarantined in the solar system. Christians believed that intelligent beings inhabited other planets in our galaxy. The perceived opening in the Orion became much talked about region. Those who believed in the soon return of Jesus concluded that Jesus would return to earth through the opening in the Orion. However, the modern-day advanced instruments showed that an opening in Orion does not exist. Additionally, data collected by advanced instruments indicates that our universe contains billions of galaxies. The probability that any of them has an inhabitable planet is extremely low.

CREATION (3)

The earth-shaking emerging cosmology.

The clockworks universe comforted theologians in their sorrow because the emerging cosmology overthrew humanity as the crowning center of it all. Accordingly, some theologians found a way of exploiting the emerging cosmology in their favor. However, their consolation did not last long. The classical philosophy introduced an impediment to the clockwork’s universe. Philosophers interpreted the emerging cosmology in a way that robed the emerging theology of beauty and order. Philosophers maintained that the human mind and matter in our universe were separate but coexistent realities. This assertion is known as Cartesian Dualism. However, the emerging cosmology demonstrated that Cartesian Dualism is incorrect. This assertion will be explained later in this series of blogs.

An unfortunate product of Cartesian Dualism is the teaching that there are two worlds. One world is the visible everyday world. The other is the spooky world of spirits. The division of reality into two worlds is an unfortunate one and is incorrect. The assertion of two worlds energized the superstitions, especially so in less advanced societies. People began to see and notice unexplained apparitions that occurred at night primarily. People would go out of their way to avoid cemeteries at night. Even during the daytime, people avoided lingering near a cemetery. Cemeteries were a place where the spirits resided, they thought.

Theologians, rightfully so, rejected Cartesian Dualism. However, theologians did not offer a clearer understanding of God the Creator. They rejected reason as a means of learning about God the Creator. Theologians concluded that people could know God only by divine revelation. Such assertion caused confusion concerning God the Creator and God the Savior as well. The creation no longer revealed the glory of God. The reason for such a conclusion was that the sin-impacted nature could not display the true glory of God, people thought. Employing a local worldview, some theologians maintained that a less appealing local nature is a work of Satan. However, because theologians and scientists did not know that the universe we observe today existed, they could not conclude otherwise. While the earth exhibits the consequences of sin, the universe does not.

CREATION (2)

Creation according to ancient cosmology.

In ancient and biblical cosmology, humans and the earth were the centers of the God’s dominion. THE MAN WAS IT! Accordingly, theological thinkers maintained that all activity by God and heavenly beings was directed down to earth. The ancient times’ people did not know that the universe existed. They did not even know that earth on which they lived was a planet. The earth was the only thing that God had to keep him occupied, so they thought. The “good and innocent people,” they thought, suffered consequences due to conflicts and changes in feelings among heavenly beings. Humans, in general, viewed God as a strict defender of his ways. God, they thought, often imposed his way at the unexplainable expanse to the people on earth. People did not do anything wrong, yet they suffered, they thought.

Copernicus, however, to the “good Man’s dismay, discovered that earth was not the center of God’s dominion, the universe. His study showed that earth was only one of several planets that orbit the sun. Soon after, even the sun was not the center of the universe. The Man was not it! Copernicus dethroned him. Theologians, especially the in rising Protestantism, screamed foul. How dare anyone say that Man, the crowning act of God’s creation, is no longer the center of it all? Many theologians thought and maintained that God created Man because he needed humankind. Therefore, humanity cannot be inconsequential. That is why all activity by God and heavenly beings are directed to earth only, they thought. Therefore, not only did Copernicus clip the human pride but also denied God of his essential creation.

Not only did Copernicus’ discovery dethrone Man, but it also created a problem with gravity, as understood by scientists and theologians. Scientists and theologians maintained that gravity proves that the earth is the center of God’s dominion. Everything falls to earth. It did so because there was no other place to go. Thus, nothing ever fell away from earth. In an attempt to resolve the problem with gravity, Isaac Newton formulated the classical theory of gravitation. Newton’s theory of gravitation postulated the “clockwork universe.” Theologians found solace in the clockwork universe. Accordingly, they rebranded God as a God of order and beauty.

CREATION (1)

How should we understand the creation?

To understand the biblical narrative of creation, we should;

  1. Understand that the Bible does not describe the creation of our universe or its beginning.
  2. Observe that the biblical narrative of creation only describes the preparation of the planet earth for the carbon-based intelligent life – humankind.

Therefore, the creation of our universe and the preparation of the earth for intelligent life are separate events. The biblical narrative of creation is based on ancient cosmology. It is ancient; nevertheless, it persisted until only a few centuries ago. People in biblical times could not have described the creation differently than they did. They had limited knowledge and a narrow worldview. However, we should not view their condition as a deficiency. Knowledge advances in time and at a rate determined by the Creator.

For millennia, humans considered the earth to be a flat disc. The heavens appeared as a canopy attached to the earth’s horizon. Therefore, the earth served like the weight that holds the heavens in place. According to ancient cosmology, there were three heavens. First heaven, the closest to humans, was the heaven of birds. The second heaven was the heaven of sun, moon and stars. The third heaven was the heaven where God, or gods, was. People in ancient times believed that the sun, moon and stars orbited the earth. However, they did not know how did the sun return to its starting place during the night. The people in ancient times did not have the means to look beyond the horizon.

The ability to see beyond the horizon and farther is a modern-day achievement. Knowledge had to advance sufficiently to enable humans to expand their horizons and increase their worldview. Today, we can see well beyond our solar system and even beyond our galaxy. The ancient’s did not know that the solar system and galaxy existed. They did not know that universe existed.
