The two witnesses continued.
While in the body here on earth, Jesus Christ and his work are the ultimate, final, and full witness for God. Jesus Christ, in his person and by his mission, revealed and accomplished his Father’s plan for humankind. The Father testified of Jesus Christ. “And the Father who sent me has himself testified about me…” John 5:37, NET. Jesus’s work on behalf of humanity testifies that he is a faithful witness. John 5:36. The Old Covenant Scriptures testified about the Messiah and his mission. John 5:39. God revealed his plans for humankind and accomplished them through the body of Jesus Christ on the cross at Golgotha. The temporary shadows found in the Old Covenant Scriptures became the eternal reality of Jesus Christ while in the body here on earth. Jesus Christ has set aside the shadow and established the reality. Colossians 2:16 – 17.
The Old Covenant high Priests, according to the order of Aaron, could not remove the sin of the people. They could only symbolically portray how God will accomplish it in the Messiah, Jesus Christ. They could not remove the sin because they could not cleanse the conscience of the people. Hebrews 9:9. The earthly priests could not open access to the Most Holy for all; only the high priest could enter it. Hebrews 9:7 – 8. However, because of Jesus Christ and his work here on earth, the Most Holy, the heaven, is open to all. Therefore, all yielded believers are priests, free to approach the Throne of God in prayer and the name of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:9.
“And I will grant my two witnesses authority to prophesy 1,260 days dressed in sackcloth.” Revelation 11:3, NET. The 1,260 days refer to 3.5 years of Jesus’ ministry on Earth. Jesus restored or rebuilt God’s actual and permanent dwelling among humankind during the three and half years of his ministry. The true Sanctuary is the body of Jesús Christ. John 2:19 – 21. Accordingly, God is with his faithful forever in the body of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is our true and permanent High Priest. He brought us back to our Father forever. He has cleansed our conscience from things that lead to death. Hebrews 9:14. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. Revelation 17:14. The functions of the High Priest and the King are united forever in Jesus Christ. Zechariah 6:13. God removed the people’s sin in a single day, through the body of Jesus Christ on the cross at Golgotha. 2 Corinthians 5:21; Zechariah 3:9.
