THE MESSAGE IN ROMANS (26) Romans 6:1 – 14

Freed from sin’s dominion. An overview.

We understand from the previous blogs that because of disobedience by one man Adam, the whole of humankind became helpless slaves to sin. Sin was the lord over humanity until the cross at Golgotha. However, God destroyed sin and the sinful human spirit on the cross at Golgotha forever. However, we still have sinful flesh, the sinful biological nature. Therefore, all the people and the yielded believers are also subject to temptation. The yielded believers still sin against the law. However, they do not sin deliberately, and they do not continue in sin. The good news is that God has freed us from the guilt and punishment for sins against the law. The only sin we are not free from is a sin against grace, the sin of unbelief.

Our freedom from temptation is still in the future from our perspective. However, God has forgiven us all our past, present, and future sins against the law. Consequently, in the eyes of God, we stand justified, sanctified, and glorified in Jesus Christ. That is our legal standing now, not in the future. God is eternal. Therefore, there is no past or future for him. Everything is in the absolute present. However, we are still in a sinful world; therefore, we do not fully experience our present standing in Jesus Christ. Therefore, our justification by the faithfulness of Jesus Christ could appear in the future. However, the yielded believers can be certain that our justification is a reality here and now. Whether or not we feel so, our freedom from condemnation by the law is the reality.

Therefore, believers must surrender themselves and rest in God through Jesus Christ. We must rest in God’s finished and perfect work concerning our salvation. God accomplished everything needed for our eternity with him. He accomplished it through the body of Jesus Christ on the cross at Golgotha. There is nothing left to be done. We know so because Jesus rested in the grave on the seventh day of the re-creation of humankind. This is not ours through our effort. We must believe God that he has accomplished it.
