COVENANTS (6)

Review of the covenants, or grants, addressed in previous blogs.

Previous blogs presented God’s grants (Covenants) given to individuals He chose from among the sinful humankind. God’s promise of a Savion he made in the garden of Eden applied to all of humankind. God created the whole of humankind in the first man Adam. God instructed Adam to remain loyal to Him. He gave Adam a simple command that did not burden him. The life of Adam and the whole of humankind depended on Adam’s obedience to God’s simple command. God informed Adam that if he disobeyed, he would surely die. The sure death is an eternal death without the possibility of resurrection. Adam disobeyed God. He joined Lucifer in his rebellion against God. Because Adam represented the whole of humankind, his disobedience applied to the whole of humankind. Consequently, this world and its inhabitants belonged to Satan.

However, God loved humankind and determined that He would redeem it from slavery in the kingdom of sin and darkness and bring it into the kingdom of light and righteousness. Accordingly, God chose from the rebellious humankind individuals He knew that they would remain loyal to Him. Reword for their loyalty was that the world’s Savior would come through their descendants. The recipients of God’s grants did not contribute anything to the grants. God’s promises to chosen individuals were unconditional and irrevocable. God obligated Himself only. However, God’s promises applied to all descendants of the promise recipients.

God chose Abraham, a descendent of Noah, to bring the Messiah into the world through his descendants. God did not choose Abraham because of what he was at the time of the call. God chose Abraham because He knew who Abraham would become. Before creating the universe and humankind, God knew that Abraham would be loyal to Him. Also, God knew that Abraham would instruct his descendants to be loyal to God. As a reward for Abraham’s loyalty, God promised that all nations would be blessed through his Seed. The “Seed” was spoken in singular and referred to the Messiah. Messiah, who is the blessing for the whole of humankind, came through David’s offspring. David is the descendant of Abraham.

The agreement at Mount Sinai is next.
