Humankind sins.
In his effort to find a home, Satan approached the woman in the Garden of Eden. He cleverly rearranged the words in God’s command and asked the woman if it was true that God commanded the human pair what fruit they could eat and what not. His goal was to engage her in a conversation. No created order of intelligence could win a debate with Satan. Lucifer is the highest-created order of intelligence. Unfortunately, the woman conversed with Satan, intending to correct him. She corrected Satan without even noticing she was conversing with an animal, a lower creature.
The Woman’s response was all that Satan needed to win a home. Satan knew that if he approached the woman, he had the best chance of leading Adam to decide favorably. The noun woman means from man; therefore, she could decide for herself only, not for the whole of humankind. Adam joined the woman in rebellion against God. Why? We do not know. Satan did not talk to Adam. “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, because she was deceived, fell into transgression.” 1 Timothy 2:14, NET.
The first man, Adam, was the representative of humankind; therefore, only he could decide for humanity. For to us unknowable reasons, Adam made a deliberate and willful intelligent decision. Adam’s decision was by the spirit God gave him at creation. Therefore, his decision became irreversible. Neither he nor his descendants had the power to change his decision in the Garden of Eden. “When the woman saw that the tree produced fruit that was good for food, was attractive to the eye, and was desirable for making one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate it. She also gave some of it to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” Genesis 3:6, NET. Adam made the whole of future humankind God’s enemy by his decision. The whole of humanity lost the power to do anything about its sinful and helpless state. Only God could resolve the new state of humankind.
The consequence of the fall of humankind.
