The fatal decision and its consequences
The Woman was deceived and became a sinner by transgressing God’s explicit command. However, she did not make humankind a sinner, only herself. Adam’s intelligent decision and deliberate choice impacted the whole of humanity. Adam’s decision was willful and deliberate. He knew what the consequence of disobedience would be. “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, because she was fully deceived, fell into transgression.”1 Timothy 2:14, NET. The first human pair did not act in darkness. God gave them all the necessary knowledge for an intelligent decision, and they knew the consequences of disobedience.
Additionally, they knew what measures God would take to redeem the earth and save its inhabitants. “For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into freedom and glory of the children of God.” Romans 8:20 – 21, NIV. Therefore, Adam hoped that the plan of salvation, which would restore humankind to God, would also restore nature to God’s dominion. Because he understood the consequences, Adam hoped that God would accomplish the salvation of humankind, as he promised.
By his willful, intelligent decision, Adam made humankind sinners by nature and, therefore, the Enemy of God. The enmity between humankind and God continued until the cross at Golgotha. Because God loved humanity, he put it under grace and delayed the punishment for sin until the cross at Golgotha. Romans 3:25. God announced in the garden that he would defeat the Enemy, Satan, at the right time and destroy the evil forever. Accordingly, God cursed the serpent, representing Satan, and stated that his Salvation, Jesus, would crush the head of evil at just the right time. Therefore, God said to the serpent, “And I will put hostility between you and the woman and between your offspring her offspring; her offspring will attack your head, and you will attack her offspring’s heel.” Genesis 3:14 – 15, NET. The Seed of the Woman refers to the Messiah, who came into the world through Woman.
