A TESTIMONY ABOUT JESUS (25) Revelation 5:1 – 14

What was written on the scroll?

John saw the Scroll rolled up and sealed with seven seals, indicating that only the legal owner of the property could take the Scroll and break its seals. The Scroll on the right side of one sitting on the throne had writing on both sides. What did it say? The prophet Ezekiel answers, “Then I looked and realized a hand was stretched out to me, in it was a written scroll. He unrolled it before me, and it had writing on the front and back; written on it were laments, mourning, and woe. Ezekiel 2:9 – 10, NET. Both the prophet Ezekiel and the prophet Zechariah saw an open scroll. Why do the Old Covenant Scriptures show the open Scroll? However, John saw it rolled up and sealed with seven seals. Because before the Messiah came and defeated the prince of this world, Satan, the ownership of the earth had not legally been established. Humankind, in Adam, in the garden of Eden, gave the Earth to Satan as his principality. However, humankind could not give him sovereign privileges and power over the Earth.

However, because God resolved to redeem the Earth and save its inhabitants, Satan’s ownership of the Earth was temporary. The establishment of the rightful owner had to wait until Jesus, the promised Messiah, had defeated Satan. The prophet Zechariah gives more detail concerning the writing on the Scroll. “Then he said to me, This is the curse that goes out over the whole earth: Every thief shall be expelled, according to this side of the Scroll; and, Every perjurer shall be expelled, according to that side of it.” Zechariah 5:3, NKJV. The prophet Ezekiel saw the lamentations and woes that would grip the inhabitants of the stolen dominion. However, the thief and those who side with him will be banished at the end of the Millennium. The lamentations, mourning, and woes will also perish and never again oppress the inhabitants of God’s Dominion.

Jesus identified Satan as a thief. “All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.” John 10:8, NET. Satan came into this world by deceit; he stole it. He did not gain ownership of the Earth through legitimate means. However, the plan of salvation of humankind existed before the creation; therefore, Satan’s subsequent ownership of it was temporary. Ephesians 1:4 – 6. The rolled Scroll, in the hand of Jesus Christ, certifies that he has defeated Satan and has restored the Earth and its people to God. Satan no longer has power over the Earth. Jesus Christ, the Mighty Ruler, now has full authority over it.

Only he who is worthy could open the Scroll. Read the next blog.
