The conquerors in Christ.
“And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose, because those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son would be the firstborn among the many brothers and sisters.” Romans 8:28 – 29, NET. The yielded believers are the conquerors, but in Christ Jesus only. The Holy Spirit, who dwells in their minds, assures them that God is on their side always. God loves us selflessly and only works for what is good for us. He created us because he loves us. Even though we disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden and thus lost his image in us, God remained determined to conform us to the image of Jesus Christ. Before he created us, God predestined that we would be conformed to his Son, Jesus Christ.
Before the cross at Golgotha, God had one Son, the representative of the new humankind, Jesus Christ. On the cross at Golgotha, God created new humankind. Therefore, God has many sons and daughters after the cross at Golgotha. They are the yielded believers, the brothers, and sisters of Jesus Christ. Mathew 28:10; Hebrews 2:11. God’s predestination is the effective and permanent fulfillment of his will for humankind. God also glorified us by having us sit at his right hand in Jesus Christ. “And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.” Romans 8:30, NET.
Because of God’s love and predestination, the salvation of humankind from guilt and punishment for sin is a reality. God accomplished it through the body of Jesus Christ on the cross at Golgotha. The perfect and finished salvation in Jesus Christ becomes our visible daily experience when we surrender ourselves to Jesus Christ and trust him. As long as we are in Christ and he is in us, we are the conquerors irrevocably. Paul asserts that we are even more than conquerors, “we have complete victory.” Romans 8:37. The only battle remaining is the battle against our sinful biological nature. We did not earn God’s gift to us in Jesus Christ. Accordingly, Paul asks, “What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31, NET. The apostle Paul’s firm conviction should be the conviction of all believers. “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38 – 39, NET.
