The solution to the human sin problem.
“We know that our old man was crucified with him so that the body of sin would no longer dominate us, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin.” Romans 6:6, NET. The human spirit God put into humankind on the day Adam was created sinned in the garden of Eden. The human spirit is not made from matter, from the dust of the earth as the human body is. Therefore, a sinful spirit could not be made good again through material means. A sinful spirit commands the human body in sinful ways. Therefore, sinful humans cannot think good thoughts and do good works. Accordingly, as the Moral Law requires, the sinful human spirit had to die a second death. The sinful human spirit had to be replaced with the perfect and righteous human spirit God gave us in Jesus Christ. The new and perfect human spirit from Jesus Christ commands the bad human body in righteous ways. Even though the sinful human body cannot respond to the perfect spirit perfectly, it responds better than to the command by the sinful human spirit. However, the yielded believers will receive a good body at the return of Jesus Christ. The new body will respond to the perfect spirit perfectly. Therefore, the new humankind will be perfect in spirit and body forever.
With baptism by immersion, believers testify, symbolically, that they have died in the body of Jesus on the cross at Golgotha. They also testify that they have risen into new and perfect life in Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:3 – 6). Because the “old man” has died and the “new man” lives, the Holy Spirit dwells in the believer forever. By following the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the yielded believers are free from sin’s dominion.
Nevertheless, the yielded believers experience struggle with their sinful biological nature. The struggle will end at the return Of Jesus Christ. However, by making us alive in Jesus Christ, God forgave all our sins against the law. Ephesians 2:13 – 14. The yielded believers are convinced that they have been crucified with Christ and have risen with him into new life. “So you too consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” Romans 6:11, NET. Accordingly, Paul urges believers to resist sin. “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires, and do not present your members to sin as instrument to be used for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead.” Romans 6: 12 – 13., NET.
