THE MESSAGE IN ROMANS (24) Romans 5:1

The benefit of justification by the faithfulness of Jesus.

“Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand and rejoice in the hope of God’s glory.” Romans 5:1 – 2, NET. The justification by the faithfulness of Jesus Christ is our standing in the eyes of God in the present, through Jesus Christ. Zour justification and salvation from guilt and punishment for sin are not in the future. There is nothing more that God has to do to justify us and restore us to him. It is done! Humankind did not and could not contribute to its justification. The sin in the garden of Eden made humankind utterly helpless. The sinful humankind had to die an eternal death as the wage for sin. Sin separates the sinners from God, the only source of life. Therefore, death because of sin is unavoidable.

Having the sinful life die the eternal death and replacing it with the perfect life was the only solution possible. The law requires that sinners must die, and sinners did die. God put sinful humankind under the grace the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ, until just the right time because he loves humankind. God accomplished the wonderful exchange of human life through the body of Jesus Christ on the cross at Golgotha. God created new humankind in Jesus Christ at the incarnation. Therefore, Jesus is the representative of the new humankind. Jesus’s victory over sin’s temptation was for the whole of the new humankind. God, in Jesus Christ on the cross, justified all the people. He accomplished this through the wonderful exchange on the cross. The spirit God put in the first man – Adam, died in the body of Jesus Christ, the Second Adam, forever. Now we have the eternal life of Jesus Christ that God put in him at the incarnation.

Because of what God did on our behalf, we have peace with God, a vertical peace. The yielded believers are also obligated to promote horizontal peace among all humans. All peoples now belong to God as his children. The yielded believers must live in peace with all whether they accept God as their Father or do not accept him. Because God has made us righteous in his eyes, the yielded believers are free to approach God in prayer, in the name of Jesus. The earthly temple was God’s residence among his people. Only designated priests could enter the temple. However, the New and permanent High Priest Jesus Christ is at the Father’s side. Therefore, the believers are the priests who can enter heaven freely in prayer, in the name of Jesus Christ.

The concept of justification amplified is next.
